Dear Friend

Annual General Meeting, subscription renewal, diary dates and news

The AGM will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 4 May 2004 at Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust. It is an opportunity for Friends to meet and we look forward to seeing you. If you wish to attend please send your name (for security reasons) by 30 April 2004, together with any Agenda items, nominations for officers or resolutions that you wish to submit. You can use the slip below to send both your intention to attend and/or, if you have not already renewed your subscription for 2004, your cheque for £5.

Sunday 4 April 2004, 11am for 11.15am
Plaque unveiling followed by tea

There will be an informal ceremony to unveil a plaque to mark the opening of the garden by Councillor Elaine Baker during her term as Mayor, and her continuing support. We shall also plant our latest acquisition, a Koelreuteria paniculata (Pride of India), which is a gift from Mrs Gilly Drummond of Hampshire Gardens Trust. Sculptor Roger Stephens will bring his designs for the new garden seats, which are now much nearer to being commissioned. Gardeners from St Ann’s Church (built 1785-1787), who are planning their own eighteenth century garden, will join us.

Sunday 20 June 2004, 2-4pm
Annual Garden Party

Other news

Commissioning of the granite seats has been made possible by a generous grant from Onyx under its landfill tax rebate scheme. Radio Solent’s popular gardening programme, Topsoil, recently broadcast an interview with two of our volunteers and composting hints from another. Working parties are held on the first weekend of each month. No one is expected to work harder or longer than is convenient. Please telephone me to find out more. Our most recent volunteer is Iain Barnes who joined us last autumn. Iain trained professionally at Cadlington House and Staunton Park and is a valuable addition to the team. Please return the slip below to the above address if relevant.

Yours sincerely, Ann
